Oklahoma was designated as one of these regions in 1966. The goal of the program is the attainment of excellence in the practice of community medi- cine using all available resources at state and local levels. This includes the life-long educa- tion of state physicians with emphasis on can- cer, cardio-vascular and related diseases. The Regional Medicine Program staff: N. Hardin, S. Caldwell, A. T. 1 Wakita Center to Open in Augu t In December, 1967, construction began on the Wakita Community Health Center-the pilot health unit for the Medical Center's Proj- ect Responsibility. Tfie building will incorpor- ate a clinic, an 18 bed hospital and a 30-bed nursing home , it will be staffed by a general practitioner, an internist and a pediatrician. Project Responsibility is the plan of Dr. James Dennis to provide comprehensive health care for rural Oklahoma through a system of data collection and analysis and the training of physicians in family medical practice. Ronald Walters Cmsivj learns to communicate all of these things as he examines a patient's heart. The coupling of technology with medicine has opened new worlds in patient care. On Llniversity's new cardiac ward 3-C, 2nd year medi- cine resident Dr. C. Wayiie Starnes is able to monitor a patient with a recent myocardial infarct and follow him 24-hours a day. The practice of good medicine is a discipline which must be not only learned, but lived. A patient's life, literally, depends on the decision a physician makes after considering all of the varied aspects of each case.
