Membership in this national honorary society is based on both military and academic excellence. The organization is designed to foster understanding of the obligations of citi- zenship and to prepare it's members to be better officers in meeting their mili- tary obligation. Thecadets of Scabbard and Blade annually sponsor the Army ROTC Mil- itary Ball, and the selection of the eight finalists for Honorary Cadet Colonel. Their other projects range from blood bank drives to helping the underprivi- leged in and around Norman. Society members endeavor to im- prove their military skills through extra training activities, company-sponsored talks by officers on active duty and vis- its to military bases. E 'ia Before the Military Ball this scene was a common one for members of Scabbard and Blade. They planned and arranged the Military Ball along with other activities. ' - F ' Ti? J . .. . l ll! Our main goal this year was to give you a better book than in the last three years, only you can de- cide that. The year started with a new sponsor, a new printer, a new editor, and an all volunteer staff, which was small but achieved a new high in adver- tising sales. Advertising sales surpassed Sl,400, which made it possible for the new style of binding, two pages of four color and end sheets. Good times change into memories only too fast, we have tried to capture some of those memories, some are good and some you would like to forget. We really enjoyed giving this, THE LIEUTEN- ANT 1971, to you. Don Burk Bob Magnusson Robert Cherry Sam Rhodes Tony Clark Hal Stratton I Captain William Holmes and Mrs. Cathy Sublett were sponsors of THE LIEUTENANT 1971. Besides their tireless help and support they both helped with identifying cadets in photographs. A - ...-. g ...vw-. ,,,,- ,.,.-'g.f-..... - --- tae iff?
