Camp Eagle Changes Cadets To ffcers For six weeks in June and July, advanced course cadets returned to nature. The place was the sunny foothills of Fort Sill. The occasion was summer camp. mmer cam is that recreational experience which Su p teaches cadets an appreciation for the finer things in life, along with the experience to lead. Things like a soft breeze, cool water or a chance to rest, take on new meaning to any- one that has been to this camp. The cadets were able to witness the beauty of the sunrise again and again and again. Occasionally they would sleep under the stars and on top of cactus, sharing their bed with whatever crawled on the ground. During the six week stay these future lieutenants were exposed to many of the weapons and tactics used by the Army today. The cadets fired everything from hand weap- ons to mortars to howitzers. Through the use of rotating leadership positions, these young men learned what it takes to lead others. More im- portantly, they learned what it feels like to be the follower . . . the enlisted man on the bottom of the pile. By placing him in a follower role, summer camp gives the cadet an understanding which will make him a better leader IOITIOITOW . Lt. Colonel Carrillo, who was in charge of the tactics committee at Ft. Sill during summer camp, talks with cadets and gets their reactions as to the summer camp training. l l Q THE MILE RUN and it seems s - ' - . . .o lo ' b -' , , . - - ng Qui three mmlh of 'hc WHY lhwllgll.
