ARI E OFFICERI TRUCTOR CAPT J. L. WEE EY, USM ...NSN In his second year of his tour of duty here at Notre Dame, CAPT Sweeney is a 1975 grad- uate of the NROTC Unit at the University of Illinois. Af- ter commissioning he went to TBS in Quantico, VA., and then moved on to the 1st Com- bat Engineering Battalion. He spent two years as Combat Cargo Officer aboard the USS OKINAWA QLPH-31. After attending Advanced Engi- neering School, he joined the 7th Support Group as both Company Commander and Battalion Operations Officer. THIRD CLASS TRUCTOR LT T. C. WACI-ITL, USN After a two year enlistment in the Marine Corps, LT Wachtl received his B.A. and M.S. de- grees in communicative disor- ders at the University of Wis- consin, EauClare. He entered AOCS in 1979, receiving his commission in 1980. LT Wachtl was last assigned to UP-26 in Brunswick, Maine, and was de- ployed to Spain, Portugal, Scot- land, Bermuda, and Iceland. LT Wachtl arrived at Notre Dame two years ago and has enjoyed his time here. 1--'- X f HM

ECO D CLASS TRUCTOR 2--lg' ,g,...M- , . S. I NN LT J. F. EHLER , LT Ehlers graduated from the United States Naval Academy with a B.S. in Aerospace Engi- neering. He then attended Nu- clear Power School and Subma- rine School. LT Ehlers has served aboard the USS SAM HOUSTON QSSBN 6091, as Electrical Asst., DCA, and Weapons Officer, and the USS AUGUSTA QSSN 7105, as Main Propulsion Assistant. LT Ehlers now serves as the Second Class Instructor at the Unit. FOURTH CLASS TRUCTOR LT R. M RKOW KI, U Mr. Murkowski is a new freshman instructor and is a native of Wausau, Wisconsin. LT Murkowski received his degree from the University of Wisconsin in Marketing!Man- agement and went on to re- ceive a Masters in Operations Research. LT Murkowski, as a surface warfare officer, has served in many capacities, such as ASW officer, lst LT, and Communications officer, aboard the USS STERETT QCG-315. In addition to his ed- ucational duties, he has creat- ed a Trident Society at the Unit in order to enhance the professional development of the Midshipmen.

NAVIGATIO Assr. MAR1 E oFF1cER y TRUCTOR GYSGT R. BETANCOURT, JR., UMC Gunny Betancourt is a native of Bronx, New York, and en- tered the Marine Corps in August 1970. Gunny arrived from his last duty station in Hawaii a year ago this past sum- mer. Among his various duties, Gunny runs such all-time fav- orites as Bulldog Prep and the PFT. The Gunny is also in charge of running drill and mak- ing sure that all of us have the proper military bearing by the time commissioning rolls around. QMCS CSWJ G. M. ILLIAM O , 1 :i:asSsRS'N X ,....- as me QMCS Williamson has a wide and varied Naval career which he has used these past two years here at Notre Dame. His desire to help midshipmen is apparent to all, always willing to talk to any of us concerning any matter. In addition to running the NROTC Library, his other pri- mary duties lie in assisting with the instruction of the Naviga- tion class which midshipmen take in their Junior year. 7
