around the world Father Sorin was one of the few men brave enough to believe in the future of a tiny community in fro- zen Indiana Other religious orders refused to found a school in South Bend because it was too cold and no one would ever attend it. Admittedly this was half true. Father Sorin proved them wrong. By dreaming dreams larger than possible, he built a school which has outlived his dream. The Univer- sity of Notre Dame has become a cornerstone of Catholic academia and now draws students from all over the world. Their Notre Dame education will become the cornerstone of their adult lives and hope- fully will inspire them to dream dreams beyond pos- sibility. 1 Cornerstone

Many stand in awe at the majesty displayed through the leaves of this sycamore tree. One can only imagine the river of humanity that has passed by it on the way to and from the Grotto and the Basilica.

Both the globe in Hurley and the statue of Father Sorin are reminders that Notre Dame caters to stu- dents from all over the world.
