IN submitting this book the Class of 1918 desires to apprise its readers of the handicaps that were encountered in producing it — the prohibitive price of materials, the drain on the talent of the class, the precarious position of the men subject to draft, all resulting from the state of war — and the innumerable other difficulties that arose until it seemed to our o verwrought imaginations as if we faced the opposition of all things, ani- mate and inanimate.
