College Of Education The College of Education Is one of five undergraduate units of the University of Northern Iowa. Within the Cotege are the Departments of Curriculum and Instruction. Edu- cational Psychology and Founda- tions. School Administration and Personnel Services. Library Sci- ence. Special Education and Teaching, as weS as the School of Health, Physical Education and Re- creation UNI offers a broad range of field- related experiences for teacher education students Included are clinical experiences. early student classroom observation and exper- iences and student teaching. The Malcolm Price Lab School is the only university affiliated labo- ratory school in Iowa. The lab school offers instruction to more than 750 local area students, from nursery school through 12th grade. Price Lab School provides a unique experience for practice teaching and observation In an on-campus setting. The Department of Health, Phys- ical Education and Recreation of- fers students both teaching and non-teaching degrees In the areas of health education, com- munity health education, physical education, community recreation, and therapeutic recreation The Department of Ubrary Sci- ence offers an endorsement to students In that program Ubrary media specialists are trained to teach and act as resource per- sons for a library’s information sys- tem. Students trained at UNI are able to work In elementary and secondary school libraries. The undergraduate program h special education consists of on elementary major with an empha- sis in special education. The pro- gram is competency based and a systems approach, relying on of- rect experiences with handi- capped or gifted students.
