College Of Education The College of Education offers professional education for students preparing to teach in elementary and secondary schools. Graduate work at the masters and specialist degree levels is available in several areas. Having just undergone a program review by the State De- partment of Public Instruction in 1981, the college is begin- ning to prepare for a 1983 visit by the National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education. Hopefully a proposal for a Doctorate in Education will be approved in April. Contained within the college arc the departments of curricu- lum and instruction, educational psychology and foundations, library science, health physical education and recreation, school administration and personnel services, special educa- tion. and teaching. Variety Of Positions Open For Graduates A marketing major prepares gradu- ates to enter entry-level positions in companies that have a marketing func- tion, such as sales, promotion, research, consumer behavior, industrial market- ing, purchasing, product brand man- agement, physical distribution, public relations, wholesaling, and retailing. UNI’s Department of Marketing pre- pares students in four areas of empha- sis: commodity marketing; marketing management; retailing management; and sales and promotion. In addition to teaching responsibil- ities, the Department of Marketing fac- ulty conduct research and consulting activities for various businesses in the Midwest as well as publishing in various marketing-related journals. Max Hosier, Gaile Cannclla Department Prepares Students To Teach The Department of Curriculum and Instruction prepares teachers for early childhood education, elementary education, middle school junior high school education, reading and lan- guage arts, remedial reading, and safety education. Both un- dergraduate and graduate programs are offered in educational media and teaching of the gifted. The department’s Reading Clinic prepares undergraduate students to teach remedial reading and at the same time, provides assistance to children in the community who have experienced difficulty in learning how to read. The UNI Day Care Center, sponsored by the department, is a licensed facility for 50 preschool-age children, many of whom are the children of UNI students. In addition to providing a valuable service for parents, the center is also a field experience site where students majoring in early child- hood education can observe and participate.
