In- cluding 4,649 newly orientated freshmen. registrants sam- pled a new procedure that transposed languages and math department tables from the steamy Reference Room to downstairs areas. But in spite of the comparative sophistication. the change did little to lessen the traditionally mad press for classes. Departments continued the discouraging habit of closing classes with anxious students still in line, and the few chairs available were full of harrassed students erasing schedules. Some still had time for a change. ESP.-.Q What's All The Rush About? The hectic biennial round of smokers, parties and ramp tours kicked off so- rority and fraternity rush for the more than 300 men and women who entered the yearly rites. The 160 girls who turned out for the Panhellenic Preview found themselves split into six groups and jostled around for a tour and entertainment in each of the six chapters. About 165 men, having nine frats to choose from this fall, gathered for hasty handshakes before running off to one of the other smokers which followed each other rapidly. When over, the fraternities had se- lected 138 pledges. Rushees were brought into the Wonderful World of the Wizard of Oz as the Kappa Deltas entertain at their second party.
