' Since 1890, Tl m the year Texas Normal Col- : lege was es- tablished, North Texas has had six S names, eight g presidents and has expanded to a 300-acre state institution with a record enrollment of 10,802. Time has brought many changes to the physical plant of NTSU. Striding through what was once the center of campus, one finds the circle of foliage surrounding the pond still a refuge for students seeking quiet in the midst of a hectic day. And built around this nucleus of the University grounds, 55 brick buildings house hundreds of classes on a campus which stretches for blocks in several directions. Dotting the area in 1963-64 are signs of further progress. Maple Street Dormitory, planned at an estimated cost of 551.6 million to house 540 Coeds, takes form as workmen rush to finish in time for the fall semester of 1964. A new Union Building wing, part of a S12 million T-shaped recreation center, rises where the slab once was used for Wednesday night dances, roller skating classes and paths for students to the south side of the campus. Edifices such as the Music Building, Uni- versity Clubhouse and Administration Build- ing remain NTSU landmarks during this progress. Others, such as the newly-repaired Historical Building, are renovated and rhythm is added to the sounds of construc- tion in and around campus. NTSU has many colorful faces . . . golden- hued bricks catch dancing rays of bright summer sunshine . . . puddles and more puddles ripple, tempting students to splash through, after a quick shower . . . purple shadows of half-finished structures play mis- chievously across a moonlight-bathed scene . . . multi-colored leaves, kicked at random by hurrying footsteps, create patchwork pat- terns in early fall . . . silver sidewalks stream through blackened lawns like silver ribbons at dusk . . . brown-flecked snow spots the grounds after the first C and usually lastl snowfall . . . buildings and lawns are barren on weekends . . . classdays bring bustling activity . . . election time promotes a carnival of brightly-colored signs through- out mid-campus . . . and on and on sparkle the myriad, intricate designs of university life. Time ticks away on the Ad Building clock. Much of the University remains the same. Much is changed. Time brings progress. -vi f g -cf-
