,mm Geography A three-month vacation for college credit-that is one of the features offered by the Geography De- partment. Each summer a busload of geography stu- dents tour part of the United States and study geo- graphy while on a fast-moving, fun-filled trip. Geographic regions, historic sites, and popula- tion centers are further studied when the students come back in the fall to classrooms in the Historical Building. i A varied curriculum for the intent geography major is complete. 5 E Dr. Henry Dannelley The Department of Foreign Languages is the only one in the College where labora- tory includes nierely talking to fellow stu- dents. Of course, this conversation nlust be in one of the foreign languages taught by the Department. Besides giving the student the ability to speak. read, and write a language, the De- partment trys to give hinr a better under- standing ol the people who speak the lan- guage by a study of the literature and culture of the countries inyolyed. Modern tape and wire recorders are used to teach languages at North Texas. Records are used in the conversation laboratories where learning is by listening. Foreign Languages if l ,,... 6' Adkins Easf ' K Of- S- B- MCA S+ef Governnlent mp Proffer Riddlesperger 55-'nv Besides ollering courses to meet the requirements of the pre-law curriculum, the Government Department exists to prepare students to become l'unctioning citizens, teachers, and governmental employees or ollicers. ln expansion this year, the Department added to its equipment a new movie projector and screen for visual aid Work. More books were added to a growing departmental library, and the Department was in- strumental in the formation ol' political clubs for young campus Demo- crats and Republicans, being Well represented in the organizations. Pi Sigma Alpha, national honorary political science fraternity, es- tablished a chapter on the North Texas campus during the year.
