The rapid growth of North Texas State College has made it possible to offer graduate study leading to the doctor's degree in the fields of music and edu- cation. Since the first bachelors degree was offered in l9l9, scholastic growth can be noted. 'llhe Graduate School is that division of North Texas established to pro- vide advanced study to students who become candidates for the master's degree. and who. having taken the bachelors degree, wish to broaden their education without reference to the higher degree. ln August of 1953, North 'I'exas issued its first doctorate to Harold H. Hitt in the field of education. Since graduate was first offered in September, l935, more than l9,073 stu- dents have enrolled in the Graduate School. By August of l95-l, 3.103 mas- ters degrees will have been conferred. lfllork toward the doctorate in educa- tion and music was started in September, lSl50. Varied and constantly enlarging facilities are offered to those engaged in graduate study and research. Grants from industrial concerns are available for students working in scientific research. Graduate students draw heavily upon the great resources of the North Tex- as library.
