A T RI B U T E . . . for Service Rendered Tkrx. J R. Swenson J- E. Blair Mrs. Pearl McCracken came to Denton's Normal School in 1902 as an assistant in English. She took over the management of the embryonic college library and helped it to grow from an apron full of books to the sec- ond largest teachers college li- . brary in the United States, the ranking achieved this year. For 37 years Mrs. McCracken served y as College Librarian. From l 1939 until her retirement last September she remained on P- E- MCDOWICI duty as Librarian Emeritus. Mrs. Pearl McCracken I. R. Swenson joined the Normal faculty in 1907 as a teacher of English and civics. From 1920 until his re- tirement he was professor and director of the department of geography. Deeply respected for his broad in- telligence, Swenson is perhaps best known for his interest in astronomy, a contagion that has set thousands of students who have passed through his classes to star gazing. P. E. McDonald, a member of the teaching stat? since 1907, came to the school as a teacher of Latin, mathe- matics, and as Registrar in 1920, the post he held up to his retirement. Mr. McDonald has always prided him- self on remembering the names of practically all students who have matriculated at North Texas. I. E. Blair, familiarly known on the campus as '4Dad,l' First came to the college as a student. His first degree was a B.A. from North Texas State Teachers College. He came back to the school in 1921 as professor of education. From 1927 until the time of his retirement, L'Dad Blair served as Director of Extension.
