:me The session of 1941-1942 is likely to be one of the most memorable in the history of North Texas State Teachers College. Iapan's treacherous attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7 plunged our nation into War and has produced tremendous changes, the significance of which it is as yet impossible to determine. While regretting the necessity of war, the student body and faculty of North Texas State Teachers College responded loyally and whole-heartedly to the call of the President and Congress. Hundreds of our students and thousands of our ex-students are now in the armed forces, and those who have remained at their regular tasks are preparing themselves to serve our nation more efficiently in the difficult months and years ahead. Students on the campus are now in training for the Naval Reserve, Civil Pilot, and industrial defense Work. Others are taking courses useful in civilian defense, such as nutrition, first aid, and physical training. The young women of the college have been active in knitting, in joining the Wom- en's Defense Corps, and in aiding the Work of the United Service Organizations. It would be impossible to summarize in a single paragraph all the activities in which the students have cheerfully volunteered their services. North Texas State Teachers College in the past years has striven earnestly to develop the principles of peaceful, democratic living, and the college is proud that young people who have not been trained in the arts of War have enthusiastically offered their all for the preservation of American liberty and American ideals. The college pledges its full energies to the education of young men and women who will give their lives not only to the accom- plishment of a full and complete victory but also to the achievement of a just and enduring peace. Merited commendation is given members of the student body and the faculty for the saneness they have exhibited under disturbing conditions and for the righteous determina- tion to administer deserved punishment to society's aggressors. May those who have been called into the service of their country soon be able to return to their normal activities con- scious of having done their individual duties well.
