M cus Sanus in capore sano has been the cry of depart- ments of physical education everywhere. It has been proved that only a sound mind can exist in a sound body, and the Department of Physical Education not only in- structs prospective coaches and physical education di- rectors, but is a plant for the maintenance of the physical Executives S 1' of Physical Education EDITH MAE KUBECK, B. No subject has shown more marked progress in the manner of presentation than that of speech. Instead of being taught as something only for the platform, it is A presented as practical training for all who speak. The design of the instruction in this department is not to make orators, actors, or elocutionists, but to develop personality. Such training is valuable for all, but vital for teachers. No thought, says Dr. Crothers of Cambridge, is in- teresting until it has passed through the mind of an in- teresting person. In the mind of the trained teacher something happens to electrify the passing thought. This is the magic of personality.

Executives 2 ---ii- LILLIAN M. PARRILL Director Department of Music Department of Music LILLIAN MAY PARRILL, GLADYS TQELSO, B. Mus. B. Mus. MARY ANDERSON, FLOYD GRAHAM, M. Mus. B. Mus. It is said that man has a three-fold nature: physical, intellectual, and spiritual: body, mind, and soul. The body is governed by physical existence, the mind, by thought and reason, the soul, through moods and emotion. Character is developed through moods and thoughts, either God-like or God-less. Music satisfies the deep feelings that stir one while sad or happy. Good music enables one to rise above his every-day self into a realm of pure thought, happiness, sympathy or aspiration, bringing him back better able to perform his work in the world. Department of Physics L. L. MILLER, M. A. SAM PARKER, B. S. The application of the laws of Physics to music, to architecture, and to the construction of machinery makes the study of Physics one of supreme importance to every- one. Since one's concepts are based largely on what he sees, hears, etc., and his judgments determined principal- ly by his interpretations of physical phenomena and laws, the study of Physics is a dominant factor in the develop- ment of a comprehensive-philosophy of life. The super- stitious, hokus-pokus, chance elements are banished from one's thinking. L. L. MILLER Direclor Department of Physics P1120

Executives 2 il -. J. E. BLAIR Director Department of Extension Placement Bureau Department of Extension Every year students whose college work is as yet in- complete go forth to occupy teaching positions. The small salaries paid to these teachers make it difficult for these men and women to give up their positions and spend more years in college in further training for their work. It is of vital importance that provision be made for the additional training of these teachers who are in active service. To meet this need is the purpose of the Extension Department. The Placement Bureau has the two-fold function of assisting public schools in getting in contact with the teachers trained in this institution and in assisting stu- dents and ex-students in securing teaching positions in which they can best work. ln addition, it follows up students who have gone out from the institution to see how well they may be serving the public schools and to assist them in securing promotions when such are due. The office is open throughout the year. E. H. FARRINGTON Director Placement Bureau Page 22
