xecutives 2 W. J. MCCONNELL Dean of the College -1--1-ur The Dean of the College is concerned chieHy with the establishment and mainte- nance of academic standards for the institu- tion he serves. In the discharge of his duties, he is in constant contact with both students and members of the faculty. The office furnishes an opportunity to harmonize dis- cordant factors, to share in the joys of achieve- ments, and to offer assistance to those in distress. Problems of every sort and kind come to him. Requests for the impossible as well as the possible must be acted upon. He welcomes the opportunity of knowing to the fullest possible extent all students of the college. W. J. MCCONNELL. P1110

Executives A Definitions of education vary as view- points differ. To some education means the development of inherited potentialities. To others it means the adjustment of the in- dividual to his environment. To still others it means guidance hy reason instead of hy impulse. Possibly they are all correct. The older nations are critical of American educational ideals and institutions. An ling- lish writer has said America is the only nation that has passed from a state of savagery to a state of decadence without having passed through a state of civilization. W. H. BRUCE. Payc 9 W. H. BRUCE, Pu. D. President Emeritus, President 1906-1923
