The teachers have changed, too. lt is no longer possible for a high school graduate to enter the teaching field. Largely responsible for these changes have been the teachers colleges at Minot, Mayville. Dickinson and Valley City. But the pioneer in DEAN J. V. BREITWIESER North llalcota was the School of Education at the University, which was established in the school's charter in 1885. Graduates of the school today receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. and the Bachelor's Diploma in Teaching. This diploma is accredited by the State Superintendent of Public lnstruction and is a lirst grade profes- sional certihcate in this state. The public high school, through an arrange- ment with the city of Grand Forks, serves as a laboratory for the department of education, aifording an excellent chance for practice and observation. bl.
