We are the fragments of men ' s dreams — Destined to walk the winding street of the hill We are the makers of memories, our voices thread silver lines in the white light into mists of night ' s eternity We are the raw fiber — fresh, eager — challenging the cast of being. We are the paradox full blown — seekers of silences — giving life to the fast crescendo of each new moment We are the composite of massed faces — each a self possessed We are the hunters — we are the mirror — we are forever. We come from the crossed roads of existence — we run from high to low its gamut From the quiet sand spits where the piper runs and success is measured in the weight of worn nets: From the sophisticated, horn-blowing city where life is a laugh, a token, and a tall green liottle; From the centers of industry, we come, wliere progres stifles our breath; We are from the new pastures of tlie mind — From the deep red furrows of the farm From the capitals and the cities of the world But most of us live in this land of gray-coated legends — in its small towns, in its heart, where people glide through vaulted rooms on hardwood floors — or sit on the worn bench of the corner store — or sweat in the day ' s eye — and hold up their shacks with tall white pillars — all working in their way for a warless future — preserving a memory of a proud past.
