there are only a few students at uncw that take time out from their academic envolvement to concern themselves with and participate in the student government association organizations various committees the promotion of school spirit , , . and other campus related activities these students are responsible for a lot . s they played a major role in dropping ol' a number of academic requirements , and they are responsible for the allo- cation of student activity funds . to provide enter- tainment . and activities ,. for the students as a whole .. they fight , , and they fight hard ,. they fight an apathic student body , l and an apathic administration . . and they do not give up - spite the barriers they continue on ,, and they do their best to increase .. and preserve l l e rights of the students ,. and they like the fledgling become martyrs for the cause . . and though they often stand alone in their fight . their work . . . and their accomplishments , . . do not go unappre- ciated by all , . 4 a job well done . l l and even though the battle is not over and by no means as yet to be won the 73 fledgling staff salutes you . . , for a fight well fought , , . de th h

I' I nmagme that there wlll be enough sand about the 73 fledglmg wlthout me golng Into a lot of needless detall u there are a few thmgs that u thunk you should be aware of and hopefully the awareness wlll pro vlde a better understanding of this book as a whole rumors had at early ln the year that the fledgllngs wings had been cllpped and as true as ut was It dld not keep the bird from soaring hlgh well not so hugh but hugh enough to keep the tallfeathers from dragging the ground there were many awkward and dlfflcult sltuatlons experienced through the year the allocated budget for the fledglmg was hardly enough to meet the ruse m publlcatlon costs we lost money through the inadequacy of the flrst se mester business manager who failed to sell any ads and time as well as money was lost because of the two fledglmg photographers who falled to llve up to their obligations these people remamed on the staff only long enough to put us behlnd and to dlscour age us but their perform ance rather their lack of performance dld not keep us 1 am sure that we dad just as well wuth out them It would have been mce of course not to have been bothered with the addutuonal burdens of hav Ing to carry through their du tles but hopefully erythlng has worked out for the best another serious problem was encountered late ln the school year when we discovered that a large num ber of the sectional edltors had done nothing toward then sections and they retreat ed Into lncognlto and ther remamed unfortunatel such actions not only threw us further behind bu ellmlnated the chances of full sectional coverage thus Ieavlng out a number of thlngs that had a rlghtful place In the fledglmg the staff I5 truely sorry that these thmgs dld not get ln the book and we hope that such does not happen In the future these problems managed to amount up and dld nothlng towards the meeting of the deadlines of the book thus creating another pro blem the delay In recew mg the books hopefully the books wlll be received by the time school reopens In the fall but If not please tl - - -gables - W1 . . . . gg I . from going on infact l - ' ,.ev- ll ' l gs .-. . . ,l wi ' . 1 t..
