The Student North Carolina Association of Educators acquainted prospective teachers with the history, ethics, and program of the organized teaching profession. The association also gave prospective teachers practical ex- perience in developing opportunities for working to- gether in a democratic way on problems of the profes- sion and the community. A tea honoring National Education Week was given for the faculty at the beginning of the year. To help in the community, the chapter set up a tutorial program and also worked with voter-registration by sending a form to those who had not yet registered to vote in their district. Selling candy and stationery was part of SNCAE members' fund raising drive. During the year, two outstanding students were selected to represent Mr. and Miss Student Teacher. Pat Watts was chosen Miss Student Teacher and K. M. Simmons was chosen Mr. Student Teacher. Annually a banquet is given honoring student teach- ers and their supervising teachers. Also annually in the spring, the members attend the Student North Carolina Association of Educators Convention to review new techniques of teaching and to elect officers. 9 4 X

Display of antique nursing and medical memorabilia. .Zim Student Nurses' Established in 1968, the Student Nurses' Associa- tion at UNC-W provided nursing students with a forum for the expression of their needs and ideas and pro- moted active professional involvement in the health care needs of our society. Among their maior activities this year was a Wel- come Tea in the William Randall Library during fall registration given for new nursing students and facul- ly. Governor Scott and Mayor Schwartz proclaimed Student Nurse Week to be November 7-l 3 this year. During the week, members of the association made radio and television appearances. At a special pro- gram, Mrs. Mary Ann Yow was announced as UNC-W Student Nurse of the Year. Mrs. Yow is also State Nurse of the Year. In December, the Student Nurses' Association had a reception at New Hanover Memorial Hospital in honor of the nursing students and faculty of the James Sprunt Institute in Kenansville. On March 24 and 25, the members hosted the North Carolina State Student Nurses' Convention at the Timme Plaza and provided a Social Hour and Fashion Show for the students and registered nurses at the convention. In April, several members went to local public schools and talked to students about planning careers in nursing. On the 22nd, the association hosted a meeting at Wrightsville Beach of the District Student Nurses' Association. i.
