This year the league was occupied with 45:5 assisting the Traveling Shows that were ex- A hibited in Kenan Hall and also assisted with the receptions given with each show. During December, the Student Art League had its first show and sale that not only provided needed funds for the league but was a good outlet for student work and at ' the same time gave students the opportuni- ty to pick up some good inexpensive masterpieces, It is the hope of the club to take on more proiects in the future which will not only benefit its members, but everyone con- nected with UNC-W. Among their maior activities this year was a Wel- come Tea in the William Randall Library during fall registration given for new nursing students and facul- ly. At a special pro- gram, Mrs. Mary Ann Yow was announced as UNC-W Student Nurse of the Year. Mrs. Yow is also State Nurse of the Year. In December, the Student Nurses' Association had a reception at New Hanover Memorial Hospital in honor of the nursing students and faculty of the James Sprunt Institute in Kenansville. On March 24 and 25, the members hosted the North Carolina State Student Nurses' Convention at the Timme Plaza and provided a Social Hour and Fashion Show for the students and registered nurses at the convention. In April, several members went to local public schools and talked to students about planning careers in nursing. GWEN CROOM Q pl' -1 I' Fledgling Advisor Every organization or club has a person designated by the University to act as an advisor and provide communica- tion between the Administration and such organizations. Ad- visors are many times thought of as persons with positional authority whose main function is to provide a buffer between students and the Uniyersity. Some are considered active while others remain non-committal. It has been the fontunate experience of this year 's FLEDG- LING Staff to have an advisor who is not only active and possesses a vast knowledge of the mechanical workings, but who has also given us direction, courage, and purpose. It is in this spirit and with great appreciation for all she has done for us that we dedicate this page to GWEN CROOM and say to her, THANK YOU GWEN, and may we do for others as you have done for us. 1972 FLEDGLING yearbook staff .4 .LQ I ,:. , k f 1UUTlTfE 121 K cmsus -L lump, Y mulcinlcroft ' A ' WILMINGTONJNC 4 th lf ,-P. . Today, more than a century later, we still believe that a company must do more than just earn a profit. B8.W'sapproachto building a better world is to concen- trate on what we do best. Because Babcock 8 Wilcox is big enough to spend millions on research, we developed and built equipment that helps utilities check air pollution and paper mills control odor Because we supply marine boilers for ships ofthe world, we designed a system that burns up shipboard sewage, preventing discharge of waste material into the water. To help insure that the world will have enough electric power, Babcock 8 Wilcox is producing nuclear power plants, continuously working to make them the most efficient, cleanest and safest source of power yet devised. Because Babcock St Wilcox believes that educated youth can help build a better world, we've donated over S2 million to schools and colleges. lfwe sound like your kind of place, visit our local personnel office. We have facilities around the world. If your commitment lies elsewhere, help build a better world by doing your thing. We'll work at ours. Babcock 8.
