K | rtiltt|rB:: ttimr; S0n ; gSSai ' ii S CURRICULA During the 1967-68 academic year the Department of Romance Languages, for extensice teacher preparation in french and Spanish, offered Graduate Teacher Fellowships and an accompanying Institutional Assistance Grant These programs will lead to a combined M A. and an M AT or M Ed in french or Spanish, The department, in affiliation with UNC-G ' s Institute in Middle America, offered advanced Spanish classes. New equipment for experimentation in combining visual with audio-lingual instruction was obtained A travelling company performed Tartuffe for french students and the Spanish House was officially opened on February 15 with initial address by Dr, George McSpadden, head of the department Sylvia Wilkinson, a UNC-G alumna and author of Moss on the North Side, spoke to the new English Club, The English Department offered one of the four doctorate programs at UNC-G and a federal grant was awarded for teachers ' summer instruction , Professors from Duke and Chapel Hill were guest lecturers at the International Studies Senior Seminar The Department of hiistory nnd Political Science offered a spring trip to the United Nations and sent four delegates to the China Conference at Harvard You Can ' t Take It With You, The Caucasian Chalk Circle, Macbeth and An Evening of Absurdist Plays headlined the four major Drama productions the Economics and Business Administration Departments offered graduate work at night and a masters degree m each in planning. A state-wide Business Education Conference held in March featured Academically Low Achieveing Students In Business Administration as lis theme Emphasis was put on the department ' s sequence in merchandising , The Math Department offered three Master of Arts degrees with concentration in either math, education, or numerical analysis (computer) , . Sociology and Anthropology courses were included in the summer curricula of Institute in Middle America The Department of Education restructured its under- graduate courses, modified the Block by dividing students into sections taught by teams and employed clinitians (experienced public teachers) to assist in student teaching Special electronic equipment (eg. sound synthesizer) was received For Dr, Arthur Hunkin ' s (Music Department) electronic studio. UNC-G ' s Alpha Xi chapter of Mu Phi Epsilon, national music society, was awarded the 1966-67 merit award for the Atlantic province . Dr Robert tason came from San Diego State to become the new head of the Psychology Department.
