Father play bus boy as his daughter moves into the dorm for the first time. Orientation September. 1956. the quadrangle was once again filled with cars bringing back blue, green, and future red-coats, and, for the first time, the class of 1960. Orientation held a different meaning to each of these groups: for the wondering freshmen . . . junior advisors, new friends, rooms, and ideas — they learned quickly, adding spark and enthusiasm to campus life; for the sophomores, the day when they marched jubilantly through the dining halls modeling red jackets with 59 on the pockets; for the juniors, guarding carefully the secret of Fatheads Arise until the day Aycock stage was rightfully theirs; for the seniors, the final stretch . . . the testing of their teaching abilities . . . the sad-happy time when they would file in black caps and gowns in front of the library for well earned degrees. Orientation consists not only of the first week of school, hut of all four years. First mass meetings, quadrangle sings — and learning people ' s names are important — but even more so are the times of experimenta- tion and interpretation.
