The Woman ' s College campus houses many well- equipped buildings; however, without students the buildings would be meaningless. With the arrival of September, every part of the campus becomes vitally alive. Girls come from everywhere, bring- ing minds eager for learning. Soon the classrooms are invaded, rehearsals get underway in Aycock, dining halls are filled with hungry, talkative girls, the library becomes a place of research and thought, the soda shop becomes a smoke and music-filled hangout, and the dorms are noisy homes away from home from early morning till all hours of the night. The staff feels that every girl is essential to the life of the college, as everyone contributes something of herself, be it large or small, towards the well-being of the student-body as a whole. Not only through club participation and class attendance do students contribute, but also through dorm life — house com- mittees, dorm devotions, intermural teams, or house- keeping committees. Because this book is dedicated to you. the student. we have attempted to present a week which could be taken from the life of any one of you — whether you take part in many activities or only one. From Monday to Sunday — orientation to gradua- tion — sirls at Woman ' s College are never idle. Therefore we have divided this book into the seven days of the week, including under each day the numerous activities which are offered daily on our campus. In addition, we have emphasized the lines of stu- dents found on Woman ' s College campus — lines which form and reform from day to day. from year to year — registration lines, dining hall lines. CU Day lines, and payment lines . . . lines of fresh- men, led by junior advisors, touring the library . . . lines of sophomores sporting new jackets . . . juniors lining up to serenade their sister class . . . and finally, lines of seniors waiting to receive their diplomas. Woman ' s College is reborn every year, but ever) year something is left behind — a record of the year ' s achievements, disappointments, and future aims in order that all might know that the new people might place their trust and loyalty in the experienced hands of the administration and the accomplishments ot their predecessors. We, the staff of the 1957 Pine Needles, sincerely hope, that in the years to come, this book will bring to your mind a vivid recollection of Woman ' s College life and an enduring memory of its un- failing spirit.
