Student Government CAROL DuPLER MARION SIFFORD Inspired and enthusiastic from Pre-School Conference, Student Govern- ment moved steadily this year toward a goal of true democracy. The three branches of SGA were co-ordinated in a common purpose to provide individual opportunity and equality for every student. The executive board, elected by the student body, working with student rep- resentatives in legislature, investigated, discussed and then presented for student decision amendments and timely changes in the constitution. Most timely of all, and affecting the whole student body, was that change which added the office of Judicial Chairman to those already in operation. The girl appointed to this office will take over the duties of SGA president in connection with the Judicial Board, handling the investi- gation of each case and presiding over the meetings. The vital part of Student Government Association — the student body — responded and acted in the spirit of honor and democracy as they lived this college year, 1952-53, at Y ( OFFICERS Trilby Boerner Pi l sidt m Marion Sifford 1 ' ice-Prt sidi nt Peggy Best Secretary Carol DuPler Treasurt r Jan Stern Cheerhadi i

Judicial Board Those famous Monday night meetings of the Judicial Board art- familiar to all, by hearsay, if not through actual experience. The student body made a profound change in the organization of this group when the decision was reached that no longer would the president of student government be the presiding officer. A new office was created which includes that of the former Honor Board Chairman and that of chairman of Judicial Board, called Judicial Chairman. Her duties will be those of presiding over Honor Board meetings. Judicial Board meetings, and investigating Judicial and Honor cases. The president of SGA will continue to be a member of the board, but the institution of this office will relieve her of some of the responsibility of her former duties. Keeping records of the cases has been the duty of the Secretary of Student Government. The various members are appointed from the ranks of the three upper classes, and they meet around the horse- shoe table in the Alumnae House basement, guided by the capable- help of Miss Ellen Griffin and Miss Dot Grigsby. The foreboding air long prevalent concerning Judicial Board is now gone. The Judicial Board has taken its place in proper per- spective among its sister branches of Student Government.
