Woman ' s College . . . the biggest place «m have ever seen, spread out like a strange new town . . . opening yonr eyes that first mm-Hing and looking up at the oreani-colored ceiling and the stiff furniture . . . the frightening lost feeling and wondering il - cpu would ever belong . . . tagging behind your junior advisor, learning the shortcut from North to the Science Building . . . fumbling with the combination to your P. O. box . . , staring at the placement test, feeling dumber than you had ever felt in your life . . . watching upperclassmen, wondering if you ' d ever have That Look . • . long afternoons at the round freshmen reserve tables, staring awefully at long rows of books, reading pages of small print about the manorial system, the circulatory paths of the earthworm, the travels of Odysseus, wondering if the process of education would ever be- gin to work on you . . . standing in a line of unclothed females, shivering at the impersonality of the camera focusing on yoiu- naked posture . . . knitting skeins of dull green wool into thick army sweaters . . . letters to your man in basic . . . sleeping through an eight o ' clock with the recklessness of first cuts . . . spring holidays and a year almost gone . . . drawing for a room in an upperclassman dorm . . . promising to write your roommate ... a last look at College Avenue as the bus sped homeward.
