Home Rway from Home Mid pleasures and palaces — there ' s no place like home ' — and to a stu- dent on any college campus the dorm is the closest thing to home. It is with pleasure that we honor those two, the ever-faithful house presi- dents and counselors, who, working conscientiously and incessantly, have done so much to make our dormitory life one of the cherished memoirs of our college days. This memory we w ill take with us into the golden future which lies ahead. We owe to them praise and apprecia- tion beyond trite words for their guidance and leadership at all times. The house president is — yes, she ' s the girl who keeps all sorts of affairs straight, plans for dorm dances, bridge parties, teas — the girl who calls Mr. Sink when the lights or water go off — the girl who takes vour ideas to legislature — who reminds us of our obligations lest we forget — the girl who is really a jack of all trades. And the counselor — she is the charming personality who is ready at all times to discuss or advise us with our problems, who lends a help- ing hand when bad news arrives, who peeks in the keyhole if we ' re not feeling well. It is our counselor who arranges those special occasions, and who gives us advice whenever we need it. These are our friends — who are continually working to make the dorm even more the way mother would make it. We ' re proud of them, and we ' d like you to know all of them. Please don ' t leave because here are those coiuiselors whose faces are already well-known on the cam- pus. Miss Grogan, Mrs. Hunter, Mrs. West, Miss Cunningham, Mrs. Car- ter, Miss Garner, Mrs. Andrews, Mrs. Inghram, Miss ' Martin, and Miss Taylor, Weil ' s contribution to the war effort whom we are happy to wel- come back from the Waves this year. Newcomers to the campus this year who have proved themselves true friends are Miss Wilson, who came to us from Agnes Scott and Columbia; Mrs. McCartney, a former stu- dent; Miss Westerberg, from Columbia and New York City; Miss Pron- decki and Miss Gainey, both of whom were in the Waves. Rule on the Quadrangle The freshmen and coniniercials, and of course, we won ' t forget the sophomores in Jamison, were led by the usual house presidents from the Junior class. These six girls have great responsibility as they initiate the freshmen into the ways and wiles of college life. Perhaps to them, more than to the upperclassmen, the house president is a true friend and leader. Jamison boasted Bootsie Webb, with a smile and cheerful word for everyone; Bailey was led by petite Alice Farmer; loyal Jean Keiger won the hearts of the commercials in Hinshaw; Gray had a good friend in Martha Ivey; Cotten ' s charming Frances Mann was noted for her cooperation; enthusiastic Truly Bryan captivated Coit. These big sisters of the class of ' 49 have done a wonderful job, and we ' re proud of all of them.
