OF THE PEOPLE Elections over, the newly elected stndent government ■was inaugurated at the last mass meet- ing of the year. The retiring president delivered her address. and then she gave the oath of office to the incoming officers. Attually, the stiuleut government officers spend the month of May in getting ac- i{iiainted with their new duties. Plans are made then for the pre-school conference, which is held in the early fall. At the conference three committees met and discussed the Social Program, the Honor Policy, and the War Service Program. Conference lasted three days, and the highlight of the entire program was the forum on Faculty-Student Relation- ships. The Freshmen became oriented into our democratic organization at a meeting held during Freshmen week. A play was given, uniquely explaining the Student Government Association at the Woman ' s College and the part of each student in this organization. Later, the Freshmen took their tests on the rule book, discussed the honor policy in their halls, and finally took the honor pledge at the first mass meeting before the upperclassmen. FIRST ROW: F. JOYCE POSSON, Treosui-cr JANE LINVILLE, yice-President JULIA ALEXANDER, Secretary 111 order to keep the stiideiits mindful of their democratic organ- ization, mass meetings were held at various times throughout the year. At check-up conference, the results of the plans made at pre- school conference were reviewed. The Student Government Association is divided into three branches — legislative, executive, and judicial. Every student is a member of this association. President Sarah Moss presides over the Judicial Board, calls mass meetings, and is invested with all execu- tive power. Jane Linville, as Vice-President of Student Government, presides at legislature and is responsible for seating in chapel. Julia Alexander, Secretary, takes the minutes of mass meetings, records Judicial Board cases, and sends out a report of all Judy Board and Hall Board cases each week. Democracy is in action at the Woman ' s College, for here we have an organization of the students, by the students, and for the students. 23
