A new team high in the number of points scored in a game was reached February 21 against Florida Tech when 120 points were scored. Robert Earl Blue set a new individual record when he scored 37 points against Tusculum on December 1. Blue was a major force this year as a sophomore, placing an average of 21.6 points per game for a total of 540 points for the season. This year ' s seniors are Chris Black, Jerry Boggs, Norris Dae, Terry Sloan, and Harold Thames. Other team members are Blue, Rick Dobson, Richard Cuffy, Derek Jones, Marshall Thaxton, and Lee Wilson. The Varsity Manager is Ron Swain. 1 :. ' 133 coach bill foster . . . As can be seen by these pages, Coach Foster is a man of many faces. This season he led his team to a 13-12 season against several tough teams, including nationally ranked Marshall. This record fails to show the true story, as fifteen strategically placed points could have made the statistics record read 18-7. Coach Foster led the UNCC cagers into their first year in the University Division NCAA program as an Independent. He has initiated an active recruiting program, attracting players not only from high schools, but also junior colleges. This season, with only five men or half of a team, they compiled a 6-2-1 win-loss record excluding forfeits. However, with only half a team, the wrestlers were forced to forfeit approximate- ly 30 points per match, leaving the official win-loss record at 0-9. The team was also plagued by injuries in the NCAA Regionals, where Carry Scotty received injured ribs and Francis Boles separated his shoulder in the first match. Next year, Young, Akers, and Boles return to the team. Right: Finishing a fireman ' s carry, Francis Boles takes his opponent to the mat, leading to one of his seven straight pins. HERLOCKER ' S PARK-DRIVE-ln The UNCC Community Invited Located 1 1 2 Miles Behind UNCC On Highway 29 271 To all book reviewers, literary critics, and anyone else who will immediately snatch up this yearbook and begin to tear it apart, criticizing its lack of news coverage, literary values, and artistic beauty: Don ' t try. We didn ' t attempt for it to be comprehensively complete in news, literarily perfect, or artistically beauti- ful. If you recall our first statement here, we referred to this publication as a yearbook, and that ' s exactly what it is ... a book of the year, 1971-72 ... the year that was. If you ' re looking for a grammatically perfect essay, you won ' t find it here, but you might try an English book. If you ' re looking for deep meaning behind the pictures, better switch to the pictures in an art gal- lery. If you ' re looking for the details of the Jordan incident, refer to the Journal. But if you ' re looking for a memory, we sincerely hope you ' ll find one or two here. Because, even if it is old-fashioned, that ' s the sole purpose of this entire book: to provide memories. This isn ' t an apology at all; it ' s just a simple statement of what we ' ve tried to do in the 1972 Rogues ' n Rascals. Thanks for your consideration. And while we ' re saying thank you, we want to say a special thanks to those staff members who really worked, who stuck it out and didn ' t go home for the summer without first turning in their work: Terry Fulbright (freshmen and sports), Connie Hendrix (student life), Sue Elliott (juniors), Suzanne Carscaddon (organizations), Anne Steagall (features), Jane Little (seniors). Thanks, too, to these folks who helped during the year: Phaedra Berry, KoKo Knight, Nikki Leach, Sarah Merrell, Kathy Reynolds, Mac Westbrook, Gary Williams, Kenneth Simmons, Camille Burgess, Lorraine Johnson, Claudia Jordan, Winnie McNeely, Wyn Anthony, John Dishman, Mary Ann Hill, Brenda Hogue, Barbara Roseboro, Esther Bruce. And a final, but very special thanks to the photographers: Tom Alsop, Richard Bartholomew, Jack Heni- ford, Crodon Briscoe, Elaine Nichols, Charlie Hartis, Steve Wilcox, Mike Smith. Thanks a bunch.
