We have come a long way at FSU. Individually we have grown from scared freshmen to confident se- niors. Halls are no longer so frightening, buildings no longer loom so large. Each year the process will con- tinue. Collectively we have progressed from a small nor- mal school to a growing university. We have known victory and defeat, hope and discouragement. Yet all of us find strength within ourselves to move forth to- gether. We will leave, but Florence State will endure. 26

If we learn nothing else in our college years, we learn that time is so important, yet it moves so quick- ly. During Rat Week the freshman sets out on a journey that will, in four years, transform an insecure young person into a responsible adult. His experiences will be a series of private wishes, dreams, and fears, combined with mass par- ticipation, group activities, and in- volvement with the crowd. He will grow, and as he grows so will Flor- ence State University grow. Our greatest hope is that for Florence State and each student here the journey will end well. 27
