'sf .. CDKZ Phi Kappa Sigma Phi Kappa Sigma Fraternity is at once the oldest and the youngest fraternity at LSUNO. Our 1850 founding date makes us the oldest nationally of the fraternities at UNO while on campus we are the newest fraternity to have formed. Phi Kappa Sigma at UNO shares the rich heritage of over 100 years of fraternal tradition, yet the colony is a young and vital entity unto itself, breaking new ground and estab- lishing new traditions as it goes along adding to the wealth of its national brotherhood. Phi Kappa Sigma has participated in the interfraternity athletic competitions, including football, basketball, baseball, and wrestling. In accord with the emphasis placed on scholar- ship in the fraternity, several PKS Scholarship Awards and trophies are awarded nationally, as well as those awarded by this colony to the member and pledge with the highest average, and the member or pledge with the greatest im- provement in his grades. Phi Kappa Sigma believes that a well-rounded college edu- cation should not ignore the leisure aspect of life. Therefore, a large and varied social program is a vital feature of the colony. Much pride is taken in the many services that Phi Kappa Theta has rendered to LSUNO. Within the school our fra- ternity is proud to be represented in the Student Government Association and the lnterfraternity Council. Many charity fund drives, and community relation projects have been headed by brothers from our chapter. Phi Kappa Theta can also boast of outstanding academic achievement. Not only is the fraternity's average higher than that of the All Men's Average, but several brothers are also members of Alpha Theta Epsilon Honor Society. ln the field of -intramural athletics, Phi Kappa Theta has won the fraternity championship in football, basketball, swim- ming, and wrestling. The social year is highlighted by the annual Crimson Rose Ball climaxing a year of parties and various other social functions. The brothers of Phi Kappa Theta find that by emphasizing academic, philanthropic, so- cial, and athletic activities, they are better able to reach the ultimate goals of Phi Kappa Theta.
