LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT One of the marvelous things about a university is the constant renewal of its life and vitality by the generations of students who come seeking educational and personal growth and fulEllment. All of us who have com- mitted ourselves to the higher educational enterprise are aware that this aspect of our work sets it apart from all other human endeavors. The price of this revitalization is, of course, the annual exodus of graduates, whose active friendships and contributions to the life of the campus will be greatly missed. The end of each school year, therefore, is a time of mixed emotions -of rejoicing for achievement, and of sadness for the ending of happy associations. To the graduating seniors, we say that we hope the University has served you well, exceeding your original expectations of it. XV e wish for you every success in the careers upon which you are now entering. We trust that you will continue to maintain your interest in the University and that you will keep in touch with its development. The years immediately ahead present problems and challenges of an order we have not faced before. All of us, faculty, staff, and students yet to come, will do our best, I feel sure, to greet the future with vigor and enthusiasm. XV e shall need your help. To the Editor and Stat? of the Mirage, we say lithank you and congratu- lations for having written, with warmth and insight, the permanent record of another year in the ongoing life of the University. Tom L. Popejoy President University of New M exico
