The Student Union Building iirst opened its doors to the returning students of the fall semester in 1937. Contests were held to pick a name that would be short, suggestive, and popular for this center of student activities. Hundreds of names were submitted, but the one which stuck was the SUB. Since that time the SUB has become synonymous with campus activities. The building houses the Mirage and Lobo oflices, a lounge, a meeting room, the Associated Students' ofiice, the Student Council room, a barber shop, bookstore, fountain, ball- room, and playroom. The patio of the SUB borders Z1 fountain and Hnds during the winter snows, and lazy days of spring. t Union is for the students. In 1942 services will become truly cooperative. today, the SUB will be the envy of other this district.
