The or- ganization was planned by two engineers who felt that an honorary scientific society was highly desirable. At the time, however, it was strictly an engineering society. Very soon all branches of science were included in its membership. The society aims to encourage research in science, pure and applied, by the selection of promising candidates to its membership, and by bringing together at its meetings men and women who are devoting themselves to some branch of experimental science. The Nebraska chapter was established in 1897. The total number of alumnae is 532. Members Sigma Xi R. S. Abbott Emma N. Andersen' S. B. Arenson C. W. Ackerson Esther S. Anderson E. H Barbour J. E.
