WMC Bids Farewell to Dr. Thomas Dr. Robert Thomas is leaving WMC to become president of the Ucross Foundation at Ucross, Wyoming. Dr. Bob came to Western as President in 1979. He takes particular pride in the development of the WMC Foundation, an active recruiting program, and a new business degree program. During his tenure at WMC, the enrollment has shown steady growth. He and his wife, Martha, a Beaverhead County High School English and drama teacher, will be much missed at WMC and in the Dillon community. The students of Western wish them the best of fortune and God's blessing in their new endeavor. 9

Our Sincere Dedication Dr. Dan Block is retiring this year. Dr. Block has taught biological science at Western since 1961. He has trained many biology teachers in his 24-year career at WMC. During his early years at Western he started the biology field trips, taking students to many areas in the U.S. and to Mexico. These trips have become a regular part of the Natural Heritage Program which Dr. Block initiated and directed for several years. Dr. Block received his B.S. at Milwaukee State Teachers College. After serving in the armed forces, he entered the University of Montana from which he received his M.S. and a Ph.D. in Wildlife Technology. Dr. Block and his wife have two grown sons. Their immediate plans are to travel in the U.S., particularly Alaska, and in Canada. Professor Dan Scott is also retiring this year. He has taught Industrial Arts at Western since 1967 and is proud of the many fine teachers he has helped to train in that field. Mr. Scott graduated from Western in 1961. He received his Master's degree at Indiana University in 1965. His major areas of interest are metals and crafts, which he will continue to teach on a part-time basis. The Scotts have three grown children. They plan to finish and enjoy their new earth-covered home in the Elkhorn area. Both Dans will be much missed at Western. Their combined teaching time of 54 years represents dedicated service to their professions and to Western Montana College. We wish them many happy years of retirement. 8

Homecoming 1984 Bulldogs Rise Above the Diggers With a brilliant assist from the weatherman and a last-second football victory by the Bulldogs over Montana Tech, Western's Homecoming 1984 proved to be a celebration for all. Geared to the theme of Bulldogs Are Rising High, the festivities began with a colorful parade through downtown Dillon. A continuing line of floats drew applause from spectators as judges chose the float designed by Circle K as the top entry of the year, followed by runner-up Industrial Arts Club. The Alumni Luncheon attracted 70 ex-graduates and spouses, including a large representation from the honored WMC athletic greats of 1969, who swept championships in every conference sport. Coronation of the Homecoming queen and king marked halftime ceremonies at the Western-Tech thriller. Voted those crowns in balloting by the student body were junior Margie O'Connor of Butte, and Western linebacker Guy Melby, a senior from Sidney. Chosen runners-up were Jamie Lewis, a Corvallis freshman, and Bulldog running back, Kirby Bright, a sophomore from Murtaugh, Idaho. Concluding the day long celebration were a reunion of '69 champions at the Lions Den, and the Homecoming dance at the Elks Club.
