T I 1958 Dental education in Kansas City began in 1881 with the founding of the Kansas City Dental College. After a brief residence at the Kansas City Medical College it moved to the fifth floor of the YMCA building. In 1893 the Kansas City Dental College moved to a new location at Tenth and Troost. In 1890, a second dental school was formed in Kansas City, the Western Dental College. In 1919 these two schools merged as the Kansas City-Western Dental College and in 1923 moved into their new clinic building fthe one we now occupyj and their old building across the street was converted into the administration building. In 1926, KC-Western became part of the Lincoln and Lee University and later in 1932 became the property of the University of Kansas City. Then, in 1963, the University of Kansas City became the Kansas City branch of the University of Missouri and our school became known as the UMKC School of Dentistry.
