KEEPING ONE STEP AHEAD HIS is a motto of which the Kansas City-Western Dental College and its students may be justly proud. As a confirmation of how sincere we are in this belief, we point with pride to the pictorial evidence as follows. p Firstof all may we present the administration office under the guidance of Dr. Rinehart, Dean who, with the aid of his corps of assistants and faculty advisers, so ably superintends and directs the destinies of our school. Second, our facilities for pursuing the art of dental science are, from a student's point of view, second to none. Now to make sure to satisfy even the most skeptical we will delve into the different departments and check against ourselves. A Entering the science department we find a laboratory fully equipped for research in physics, chemistry and metallurgy, modern in every respect. Then we pass on to inspect the laboratory for the bacteriology, pathology, and hisl tology classes. It spells efficiency in every sense of the word. Next the anat- omy laboratory-what a pleasure to work in this well-lighted room equipped with individual lockers, cadaver tables, separate wash rooms, and an amphi- theater type lecture room. Now let us take a look into the freshman and sophomore prosthetic laboratories, where the 'basic fundamentals in the me- chanics of dentistry are learned. Here we find examples of all branches of procedure in technic which serve as a stimulant to every student toward per- fection asa technician. Upon entering the reception room it is but a step into the infirmary with its many departments. Here every student spends hour after hour of actual clinical work under the careful supervision of a specialized instructor acquiring both efficiency and confidence. Connected with the in- firmary is the Lowery clinic, which is supervised by interns appointed each year from the graduating class. This clinic is primarily for indigent children from three to fourteen years of age. Special mention should also be made of our radiograph rooms, orthodontia, oral surgery, and ceramics departments which offer separate fields for specialization. Now let us look at the progress Kansas City-Western Dental College has made during the past year in equipping itself to better fortify its students in the profession vvith which they must serve mankind. Many improvements could be mentioned such as the building and expansion program, etc., but the greatest step forward was the acquirement of the Cogswell Clinic. A mas- terful series of wax and soap models illustrating various types of surgical extraction and oral operation portraying forms of mouth irregularities, oral pathology, and the method of treating each case. It is the only exhibit of its kind in the dental profession and has gained national recognition as a masterpiece. Because of these things and what they represent it is inevitable that we should have a great pride for our school and our profession.
