HULL, Knight Of St. Pa-trick Summa Cum Laude 1930 B. D. Hull was born in Galesburg, Michigan, in 18823 and moved to Kansas at an early age. He received his education at the Dephos, Kansas Higgh School and the University of Kansasg graduating from the Jayhawk institution in 1905 with 11 degree of Bi. S. in Electrical Engineering. Since that date he has been in the employ of the Southwestern Bell Telephone Co. and at the present time :is Chief Engineer, supervising all telephone operations in the state of Texas. Mr. Hull is a leading figure in the field of Electrical Engineeringg at the present time he is Vice-President of the Seventh Geographical District of the American Institute of Electrical Engi- neersg First Vice-President of the Dallas Electric Clnbg and :1 director of the Dallas Technical Club. He is also affiliated with the American Institute of Radio Engineers. ' Nor is he solely interested in aii'ai1's pertaining directly to his professiong hc is a member of the Dallas Country Club, a Mason, and :1 member of the Highland Park Presbyterian Church. VVe are fortunate in having Mr. Hull with us during this c'elebr:ition, and in recognition of his achievements as an engineer we feel proud in conferring this knighthood upon him. Page 44 JMS'

as---aria C 'r i v 1 fr 1 E HENRY HAliRISON I-IENLiNE, Knight of St. Patrick ' Summa Cum Laude 1930 Henry Harrison Henline was born at Colfax, Illinois, March 12, 1889, and WHS graduated' from the University of -Illinois in 1914, with the degree of B. S. in'Electri- cal Engineering. After three years varied experience, .including completion of the Chicago Central Station Institute course C1916j, he accepted in 1917 a position' as Instructor in Electrical Engineering at Stanford University. He was promoted to Assistant Professor in 1920 and' to Associate Professor in 19241. In his work of in? struction, he gave at various times many .courses in electrical engineering, and was in charge of the machinery laboratory five years and communication engineering three years. He also assisted in high voltage research, and is the author of a paper on engineering education, one on standard frequency radio station, and joint author' of three papers on high voltage subjects. ' ' Mr. Henlinc was appointed to his present position as Assistant National Secre- tary ofthe A. I. E. E. in Olctober 1926, and assumed his new duties in January, 1927. He has been active in Institute affairs for a number of years, having joined in 1919, and been transferred to the grade of lwember in 1926. He has served as Chairman of the San Francisco Section, Counselor of the Stanford University Branch, and Chair- man of the Committee on Student Activities Of the Pacific District CNO, Sj. His other memberships include Society for Promotion of Engineering Education, Institute of Radio Engineers CIbIC11lbCl'D , American Association for the Advancement of Science, Eta Kappa Nu, and Sigma Xi. Porter was born June 27, 1863, near Woodliine, Iowa, attended grade and preparatory schools in that city and graduated from Iowa State College with the degree of B. C. E. in 188111. Mr. Porter has devoted l1is entire life to public utility work or some of the af- filiated industries. His Hrst work after finishing college in 18844 was with the Des Moines Edison L-ight Co. He then went to Chicago with the IVestern Edison Light Co. In 1887 he went into the electrical contracting business in St. Louisg he later disposed of his holdings to the Edison .Electric lVIanui'acturing Co., which is now the General Electric Co. ' , In 1892 he became associated with J. G. Wllite and Co. with whom, he remained in the capacity of President until 1917. He then entered into the employ of the Kansas City Power and Light Co., oi' which concern he is now President. Mr. Porter needs no introduction to the University of Missouri especially to the College of Engineering. He is the donor of the Ralph E. Porter Laboratory which is splendidly equipped with the most modern electrical apparatus and is a very im- portant adjunct to the Electrical Engineering Department. This laboratory is to perpetuate thc memory ot' his son, Ralph E. Porter, who accidentally lost his life, a short time after graduating from the College of Engineering, while in the employ of the General Electric Co. at Schenectady, New York. Needless to say that we are proud to have this opportunity to show our esteem for Mr. Porter, whom we recognize as an outstanding engineer and a benefactorg and we welcome him as an Honorary Knight of St. Patrick.
