Bettis was born in Kansas City, Mo., December 16, 1885, and graduated from the Humboldt Ward School and the Manual Training High School X N of that city. He started to work for the Kansas City Power and Light Co. in 1903, ' and later was transferred to the Steam Distribution Department. The eflicient M manner in which, he performed his duties lcd from one promotion to another and at , the present time he is the V ice-President of the above mentioned company. Nl It was through the varied experience gained in his rise to his present position J that he accumulated the vast engineering knowledge that he now possesses. He has grown as the electrical industry has grown, keeping pace with it and not letting it ix, grow faster than he. The fact that the Kansas City Power and Light Co., is so up- 'ii to-date in its electrical equipment is evidence of this. ,, 'N Mr. Bettis has for years been an active member of the N. E. L. A., having W1 served on the Electrical Apparatus Committee for seven years, and at present is the W President of the Middle-1fVest Division. He is also a Director of the A. I. E. E., a , member of the A. S. M. E., Engineer's Club, Electric Club, and a Rotarian. , 'N The engineers of the University of Missouri are highly honored in having the ll! opportunity to confer on Mr. Bettis the Honorary Degree of Knight of St. Patrick.
