Pullen said the Department of Student Housing added new programming opportunities for the 2005-2006 school year. We want students to have as much choice and input in their living experience as possible. We encourage them to participate in Hall Council activities and in programming within the halls. The residence halls provide students with tutoring and other programs. Programs range from alcohol awareness and sexual assault defense to international cooking events. Tutoring is available for math, history, biology, Spanish, writing assistance and chemistry. We also have learning communities for biology, engineering, ROTC and honors, Pullen said. Reyena DeHenre, a sophomore biology major from Laurel, also lives in Martin Hall. She said the study sessions and Writing Center have been useful. She also participates in her hall ' s Canvas Night because she loves to paint. I like the atmosphere. My neighbors are right there. There are always new people to get to know, DeHenere said. After living in Crosby Hall as a freshman, DeHenere was surprised to discover a downside to her new home. Martin Hall does not have a kitchen. I have to go to a friend ' s apartment if I want to cook, but that does not happen too often. I didn ' t even know what a microwave dinner was until this semester, DeHenere said. DeHenere said she loved her freshman experience living in Crosby, where Resident Assistant ' s provided fun activities for the students. She said they gave the students opportunity to purchase Halloween and Christmas bags filled with candy that would be sent to their neighbors as a little I ' m thinking about you gift. Crosby Hall also had a great Scary Movie Night where students would gathered to eat pizza and hot wings while scaring themselves to death watching Dawn of the Dead, she said. Walker Agnew, a freshman real estate and finance major from Houston, Texas, said he really likes living on campus. I really enjoy dorm life because the sixth floor of Stockard Hall has some great guys, he said. Agnew said that the guys on his floor have found creative ways to have fun in the halls during study breaks and weekends. He said that he utilizes all that residence life has to offer. I ran for ASB senator out of Stockard Hall, and I use the math tutor for Business Calculus three days a week, he said. Agnew believes that its important to live in the halls, especially during freshman year.
