Have you ever slipped up over the holidays and told your mother you left something at home, meaning Ole Miss. Her eyes narrow and she says What do you mean af omePThis is your home! Then you have to quieten her and try to explain what you meant. This is our home for an important, formative time in our lives. Sort of like a family, we don ' t always agree and we don ' t always stand together. But when it ' s important, like when we ' re called upon to raise spirit for our team or raise money for a cause, our groups and differences fade away and one thing shines clear and important: We ' re Ole Miss. We ' re surrounded by uplifting phrases that pinpoint certain emotions. On the library is an optimistic phrase by William Faulkner, I decline to accept the end of man. I believe he not only will survive, but will prevail. There is another short phrase that comes closest to how we all feel about our University. It is in the stairwell of the Student Union and was written by Frank Everett, The University is respected, but Ole Miss is loved. The University gives a diploma and regretfully terminates tenure, but one never graduates from Ole Miss. Ole Miss. I ' m thankful to have been able to experience it.
