(September 17)... I ' m glad rush is finally over. At first I enjoyed meeting all of the people, but as the week wore on I began to fade. My hand hurt from all of the handshakes, the names ran by me unheard, and I got tired of all the sincere inter- est from all the ' frat cats ' . The water turned into punch by the second party, and by the third I was being walked around with someone ' s hand on my back, a coke in one hand, and with smooth words flowing into ay weary ear. I was told ten times that this was the most important decision of my life. All of the people here are really ' sharp ' dressers. I think that the boys are more fashion conscious than the girls. The ' in thing now is to be fashion- ably hippie. Hair should be over ears and colar but not too long; wire-rims are a Bust; moust- aches are good but beards are a little too muchj sandals or hushpuppies do for shoes. In order to be with it you have to have a bike and knapsack on your back. I ' m not sure, but some say that some carry an unwarranted weed in the knapsacks. Nasty knapsacks. Concerning the ' weed ' , it seems that even some of our fin, genteel Southern belles are smoking the stuff. And all in the privacy of their ante-bellum sorority houses. I ' m sure they are reveling in their new-found freedom.
