Feeling silly and like a freshman . . . your name tag fastened to you, a handful of material almut the I’ni-versity, following a group leader, you, and 6,000 other freshmen, were intro-duced to the I'niversity. During a two day orientation period you learned to find buildings on your map, took a barrage of tests and for the first time, you had to make out a class schedule. You met an advisor who helped you decide whether you should take a French or a science course. You learned, too, that your orientation group was planned to give everyone a place to belong until he found a place at the I'niversity. Through your orientation group you met the people with whom you would be attending classes. Iii the gray of early morning, you stood in small roups outside the t'niversity V.MCA building with suitcases, duffel hags and bedrolls. Some of you shouted excitedly at friends, and others looked like you were not quite awake yet. In tin- crowd a general excitement prevails. Peering out from under maroon and gold beanies that never seem to (it. with name tags dangling about their necks, you and (5.10 freshmen were determined to begin college life with all the trimmings as you started off to one of six Freshman camps. Keynoted at Camp Ihduhapi, Mark (iranbard. associate professor of interdisciplinary studies, warned you about the values and hazards of changes undergone in college. After the talk there were buzz sessions. And during the two days of camp there were 14
