Winter tjuarrer recognition dinner honored out- standing members: I ddic Levernier, big sister chairman, and president of Mortar Board; and I inily Ann Mayer, former Junior Cabinet member, in charge of Women’s Opportunity Week and Gopher reporter for three years. Members capped their initiates for the coining year at the spring Mortar Board luncheon. Academic achievements were noted at a tea given by Mrs. J. I,. Morrill, wife of rhe University president, for all upperclassmen who had a “B average. After selling Christmas seals to fight tuberculosis, there was time for fun at the gala Christmas party held for AWS members in rhe Union. Page 24

UNDER EACH CARD there's a loyal Gopher Rooter, each helping to make that gigantic Hash-card Gopher, it maroon and gold one. yet! Gopher Rooter Club W ith 600 pairs of husky lungs to show for their efforts, the Rooters feel that their second year on campus was a great success in promoting school spirit. Football was at the top of the group’s agenda. I heir pep rallies gave bedraggled upperclassmen a shot in their cheering amis. F.xuberancc ran high at one rally when 200 | epsrcrs waited two hours before the team arrived. Fifty junior members worked for the club while waiting to become full-fledged Rooters. Retiring President Jo Thayer expects the noise and enthusiasm to jump threefold next year with an anticipated roster of 1500. Football movies and Dave Skrien, the 1950 Gopher football captain, livened up the first annual Rooter bant]net held December 1 in the Union ballroom. All the athletic coaches heard the ream captains give morale boosting talks. At the football season's end, without a team to applaud and card displays to practice, the cheering team campaigned for Campus Chest.
