He also has a farm near Ann Arbor which enables him to relax in his spare moments. His life is an extremely interesting one though he is often the last to offer information about himself. Study of the Ruthvens in their garden Since his appointment to the presidency in 1929, his main considerations have been focused on the problems of the University. We may meet the President and his wife only at the Ruthven Teas and at graduation while we are in school. However, these pages give you an intro- duction to the head of the University. He is not only the symbol of Michigan but also its active leader. It is under his inspiration that the spirit of Michigan is developing today.
