The summer was packed with a Hurricane that almost postponed orientation, a conflict between two European states and the selection of the presidential nominees for the 2008 election. Not to mention, China hosted one of the most historic Olympics in history. Top that one! officially gain nomination from their parties at the 2008 Democratic National Convention held in Denver, Colorado and the Republican National Convention held in St. Pau1,Minnesota. W $MWXMMWWMIWWW7WWAW UMMER THAT A Review ofNews Near and Far UM SUMMER RENOVATIONS The 2008-2009 school year brought several new Changes for the University of Miami student body. One of the most deep-felt changes was the new policy of not allowing freshmen to have cars on campus; however, this was not the only Change at UM. Returning students also found that the new wireless printing system enacted in September of 2007 now included a printing charge of five cents for black and white copies and 10 cents for color copies, after the original credit amount of $100 was expended. Also, not to be overlooked was the addition of wider sidewalks to accommodate the many new bikers supplied by the UBike program, the renovation of the remaining Memorial Building classrooms, the creation of the new Oasis Deli in the University Center and the painting of the Whitten Learning Center from its original off-white color to the bright shades of orange and green. .r' 02.4 w
