THE AU. NIGHTER C . ,. -V ll-,i--,,V Wu When your eyes start to bum and your body starts to shake, you know it's time. When you're down to your last cup ofdiet Coke and your blood is over 40 percent cafline, you know it's time. When the sun comes up before you lie doxm, you know it's time. That's when you know it's time for bed. Unfortunately, the college experience couldn't be complete without describing something many students have experienced --the 'all-nighter'. Most college students pull at least one all nighter during finals orjust before finals when everything is due. It seems that professors all get together to devise schedules that deprive students of sleep. Most all-nighters happen spontaneously which makes them all the more exciting. Everything be- comes a race against time. Without planning to stay up much later, the student looks at the clock and insists he'll make it to bed by 2 a.m., but an hour later he extends it to 4 a.m. After realizing that he still isn't done, the student makes a last- ditch effort to finish by deciding to stay up all night to finish. The rest of the day becomes a blur for the stu- dent that pulls an all nighter--a direct result of sleep deprivation. People talk to him but he doesn't remember the conversations. He walks from one class to the other but doesn't remember sights along the way. He ends up unrolling the window while driving to prevent himself from fall- ing asleep at the wheel. That buming question kept going through his mind, 'lWas it really worth it? College students from Massachusettes to Cali- fomia all know what it feels like to wait until the last minute and to try to finish it all by doing one thing...Pulling the all nighter! T HING L Tl-lE LIMITS ,,--'f' Miniwanca in Shelby Michigan was the place where ten University of Lowell students were sent to attend the National Collegiate Leadership Conference. Each student was chosen from different parts of the university to develop a well-rounded group of student lead- ers. Everyone had different backgrounds, most had different majors, and nobody really knew each other. The only thing they had in common was the fact that they would be at- tending this conference on the shores of Lake Michigan.
