OPEN Many of the historic sites in Lowell lie along the 5.6 ' mile power canal system which was built hetween 1822 and 1848. The canal system with its ancient gatehonses and walkways is in remarkahly good repair today and is A, one major asset which makes Lowell very aniqne. Owned hy one of the nation's oldest operating corporations, The 'P' Proprietors of Locks and Canals K1 7921, the canal system , is still nsed to tnrn hydroelectric tnrhines aroand the city 5,8 today.
