To be on the wire is life, and the rest is just waiting. eorge Plimpton came to Cumnock Hall to tell of his adventures as a participatory journalist. His first experience was running the last two blocks of the Boston Marathon as an in- itiation for The Harvard Lam- poon. He found this exhilarating and so made a career of trying difficult and sometimes danger- ous occupations forthe sake of doing. Plimpton tells fascinating stories of his attempts at acting, football, car racing, boxing, golf, music, baseball, and basketball. When asked what was his most frightening experience, Plimpton said that it was his stint with the New York Philharmonic. ln sports, he explained, a game is won by capitalizing on others mistakes. In music there is no room for mistakes. Plimpton spent time as a per- cussionist and it was this that gave him the most agony. He hopes next to play goalie for the Boston Bruins.
