DR. DANIEL H. O ' LEARY President State Teachers College, Lowell It is with regret that I bid farewell to the Class of 1958. Your theme Expansion involves a measure of quality as well as one of quantity. In the four years that you have attended Lowell you have witnessed the modest beginnings of an expansion program here. Our campus and our buildings have both tripled in those years. This may sound well percentagewise, but it only involves growth from six acres to eighteen, from one building to three. More significantly, these four years have seen an expansion and strengthening of the quality of curricula, faculty and educational offerings. Regional as well as national accreditation has been earned. We have made a modest beginning. We know, however, that it is only a beginning, that the nation that has the schools has the future, that as Horace Mann once wrote Education alone can conduct us to that enjoyment which is, at once, best in quality and infinite in quantity. It is our hope that you too will not be satisfied with what you have learned here, that you will add to the education you received from your teachers a continuing education from yourselves, and that you will be as eager to help us in the future as we have been to help you in the past. f £ - Cy .
